We are currently battling severe forest fires here in our province. So much so, that our province has declared a state of emergency. I can only imagine what these people are going through right now having to flee their homes in a moments notice, leaving behind everything they own. In some cases even their livelihood!
Have you ever dealt with a hopeless or helpless situation? One that brings you to your knees out of desperation? You are so exasperated that you just cannot go on your own strength anymore? One that only a higher power can give you strength to redeem the situation and no one else?
I have. I have been so broken in different moments with my family, and a car accident that left me feeling so broken physically and emotionally that nothing I tried would work anymore.
Nothing I did could make it better. I felt helpless as I couldn't control these situations I was going through.
And out of complete brokenness, I surrendered. My will, my hope, and my heart, over to the one that can only redeem; Jesus my Saviour.
Through that moment of surrender, Jesus met me. He redeemed my family and restored my brokenness and took hopeless situations and made them better than I ever could have dreamed or imagined. You see, it was all about obedience. It was about surrendering my will and my fleshly desires to become all that I was created to be in Him. I needed to come to the end of myself and stop leaning on my own measly strength. To lay down my will before Him and allow Him to transform my inner heart so that He could use me to my full potential to reach those around me. I see so much brokenness around me that my heart cries out for those who don't know His freedom. The kind of freedom that only our heavenly Father can bring.
I pray that through these fires running through our province will bring many to a place of surrender before their mighty King; the only one that can redeem their lives and pull them out of the pit of sin.
You see, we were never promised to be kept from storms in this broken, upside down world we live in. We were, however, promised healing and restoration for our souls in every circumstance if we trust our Lord and Savior in the midst of it.
We need to fix our eyes on Him through whatever our refining fire is that we are going through today.
Today is the day that the Lord has made, we will choose to rejoice and be glad in Him. No matter what the circumstances, no matter what the storm. We will choose this day to rejoice and be glad in Him because He is using the storms around us to bring us to Him. To bring us closer to know His faithful deep loving heart for us. His desire is for us to know Him deeper. To know His will for our lives and to reach out in a greater purpose to bring victory and healing to our hearts and to those around us. It is about obedience.
When those chains of life that have held us so tightly are finally broken off because we have chosen to worship Him through the storm, we become set free and redeemed from the pit. The pit that clammers for us to give up and keep us oppressed. The pit that tells us that we are not worthy. The pit that keeps us bound by fear and causes us to drown in hopelessness. The pit that keeps us from rising to our full potiential in Christ.
What is the storm of life or fire raging around you? Do you know that your heavenly father wants to release the chains that keep you from moving forward, to bring freedom to your soul so you can be free to reach out to those around you? What are you going to choose this day in this storm? To give up and feel sorry for yourself? Or are you going to rise up to your full potential in Christ? Are you willing to give up your worldly desires to allow His Spirit to plant His desire in you? He wants to break you free of what breaks Him. To lay down your life before Him so He can fully redeem your heart and your situation you are going through right now.
Choose this day whom you will serve...
Lord we pray that your spirit will bring healing rain to our storms, to the refining fire we are experiencing right now. That we will find victory and healing in you. That you will help us to lay down our sinful distracted ways and surrender our will to yours so we may become all you have called us to be, in Jesus name amen!
Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit.
But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
